Spring Cleaning Charleston Style: Donation Centers and Local Drives | Carolina One Real Estate

Spring is the ideal time to refresh your home with a good cleaning and decluttering. As you go through your clothing, kids' toys, and other belongings, consider donating items you no longer use but that are still in good condition. Not only will you be helping a good cause, but you'll also be keeping your possessions out of the landfill. Our real estate agents recommend the following organizations in Charleston, where you can do a good deed and donate items you're ready to let go of as you're spring cleaning.

Spring Cleaning Charleston Style: Donation Centers and Local Drives

Charleston Habitat for Humanity ReStore

Address: 731 Meeting St., Charleston, SC 29403

Habitat for Humanity builds safe and affordable homes and repairs houses, and in Charleston County, the nonprofit has built 182 new homes and repaired 255 houses. By donating to the Charleston Habitat for Humanity ReStore, you can help them continue their mission while improving the community. The ReStore accepts new and gently used items, such as furniture, home goods, building materials, and appliances, to sell at a fraction of their retail cost. If you have large items to donate, simply schedule a pickup online.

Animal Helpers ReTAIL Resale Store

Address: 1903 Savannah Hwy., Charleston, SC 29407

If you love animals, consider donating your used items, such as furniture, appliances, home decor, and more, to the Animal Helpers ReTail Store. All proceeds from their sale will support Pet Helpers Spay/Neuter Clinic, which provides low-cost spay and neuter surgeries to help control the pet population and reduce the number of homeless animals. In addition, the clinic also provides the following low-cost services:

  • Vaccinations
  • Microchipping
  • Preventative treatments for heartworms and fleas

Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach

Address: 1684 Brownswood Rd., Johns Island, SC 29455, and 77 and 79 America St., Charleston, SC 29403

If you have clothing to donate, consider taking it to one of two Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach locations - one in Charleston and the other near Johns Island homes for sale. The organization helps clients in a variety of ways, including:

  • A food pantry
  • Financial assistance with essential bills once a year
  • A clothes closet with clean, appropriate clothing

The Haven Resource Center

Address: 3003 Dunes West Blvd., Mount Pleasant, SC 29466

The Haven Resource Center is a great place to drop off items that can help people in the foster care and adoption communities, as well as family members and friends who are raising children when their parents are unable to do so. Located near Mount Pleasant homes for sale, the Center furthers its mission by operating a no-cost boutique that's sustained by donations that include:

  • Clothing
  • Baby gear
  • Books
  • Toys

Dress for Success Charleston County

Address: 1643 Savannah Hwy. #231, Charleston, SC 29407

A job is a vital part of independence, but to meet that goal, women need appropriate clothing for interviews and the workplace. That's where Dress for Success Charleston County comes in. In addition to providing other support and development tools, the nonprofit accepts donations of new or nearly new professional clothing, including:

  • Suits and other business-appropriate apparel
  • Shoes
  • Handbags
  • Jewelry

Being properly dressed for an interview and a professional job helps women gain confidence, and as they become financially independent, they're also creating a better future for their children.
