Who doesn't love a good ghost story? Our real estate agents love to indulge in the occasional scare, especially at this time of year. That's one of the many reasons they're so passionate about life in Charleston. This city is full of hair-raising attractions and haunted locations that are perfect for celebrating the spooky season. Visit these spots around town to see what we mean.
Boone Hall Fright Nights is one of the most celebrated horror attractions in all of South Carolina. Set on one of the area's oldest properties, this year's event includes three separate attractions:
Tickets cost $39 and include admission to all three attractions. You can also get VIP tickets for $75 to get access to shorter lines and dedicated security checkpoints.
Sitting underground beneath the Old Exchange building, Provost Dungeon was once used to detain everyone from prisoners of war to small-time criminals and enslaved people. According to some, the ghosts of those who died there now haunt the place, emitting bone-chilling screams and creating unexplained bursts of icy cold air.
The Provost Dungeon can only be visited during an official tour. Tours run every 30 minutes from 9 AM to 5 PM every day of the week except Sundays, when they start two hours later at 11 AM. Tickets cost $16 per adult or $12 per child between the ages of 6 and 12. Kids aged five or younger can enter for free.
St. Michael's Churchyard is the oldest remaining grave site in Charleston, housing the graves of many key historical figures who lived and worked in the area. It's also said to be haunted by several ghosts, including young bride Harriet Mackie, who died tragically on her wedding day in 1804. Over the years, many visitors have reported seeing shadowy figures and unexplained orbs of light lurking around the graves.
You can visit the churchyard for free anytime during the day. If you want to visit at night, you'll need to book a spot on one of the many local ghost tours operating around the city.
Southern Screams Haunted House is a beloved local Halloween attraction hosted by Holy City Brewing. Guests visiting this spine-tingling spot will:
Ticket prices range from $20.99 to $56.54, depending on the day you visit and whether you want perks like shorter queues or unlimited re-entry for the evening.
